THE RUNDOWN - The 2022-2023 season provided one of the more iconic times in Providence Academy baseball history, as Coach Brent McConnell led the program to yet another HCAA State Championship game in hopes of finally breaking through after falling just short in the previous three seasons. Flash forward to the end of the season, and the Patriot Baseball team is one out away from securing its first Championship since 2019. A solo shot by Destiny Christian in the bottom of the 7th inning brought them within one run, and a score of 5-4 with 2 outs. As
Ben Harper (11th) stepped up to the mound, he needed one more out - and he delivered. A pop up behind home plate and a diving catch by catcher
Kyle Munter (11th) secured the victory for Providence, and their first title in since 2019.
Fast forward to April of 2023, and the Patriot Baseball team once again found itself in the HCAA Championship game against Destiny Christian. The return of experienced Seniors
Ben Harper,
Kyle Munter, and
Carter Keen provided a level of confidence for this Patriot squad, and ultimately propelled them to securing their 2nd straight HCAA State Championship. Home runs by
Mason Schmidt (10th) and
Carter Keen (12th) set the tone early, and the Patriot pitching staff handled the rest. As
Grayson McClain (10th) delivered a fastball right down the middle to strike out the side swinging, the team rushed the field in jubilation to celebrate their 9-4 victory.
